Pocket money and teenagers spending it has always been a subject of debate and critisizm. On the one hand it taches teenagers to be more responsible and in control. On the other hand the amount of money, they have can make them squander it very quickly. Actually many teenagers tend to spend a lot of money absolutely foolishly. So, it is a double edged sword.
In my opinion one can agree that some teenagers spend their money foolishly. Therefore parents should not give them a lot of money and set the limits. I totally disagree that only parents can decide on which clothes and shoes they can buy, because at their particular age teenagrs are increasingly eager to express themselves on their own, and their tastes start too differ from those of their parents. So, teenagers will find it very difficult to put up with their parents choice.
Other people's arguments are very split and controversial. Some even say that teenagers do not deserve to be given money at all! Some people tend to think that their children being the apples of their eyes can spend as much money as they want and thus be grateful to their parents for such a lovely childhood which they have.
I consider their attitudes completely wrong and unacceptable.
In conclusion I would like to outline that we need to use a carrot and stick approach to our children by giving them a reasonable amount of money for their needs and let them decide on their own how to spend it and which clothes to buy.
